The topography of Kalskär is typical for islands in this region with mountains, rocks, trees and other vegetation. The island has steep shores on the east side where it would also be possible to construct a pier for big boats. On the western side there is a bay with a small beach with shallow water, suitable for children. This beautiful island is considered one of the pearls in this region.
There is one small log cabin on the island, approx. 25 sqm plus a terrace. Inside there is a small living room with open stove, a small bedroom and a sauna. The kitchen is combined with the living room. It is perfect for spending a vacation with 2 to 4 people. There is no plumbed toilet; the toilet is located in a separate small shed behind the cabin. A discerning new owner has the possibility of constructing a more superior quality house. Construction rights for one 200 sqm or two 100 sqm houses exist, should the new owner wish to build two separate smaller houses.
There is also a permit to construct another log cabin the same size as the current (25 sqm) one on the western part of the island, where the small beach is located. The new pier, constructed in the summer of 2009, on the northern shore enables motorboats with a draft of up to 1.5 m to land at the island. The island is situated only 2-3 minutes by boat from Kirjais, which has good connections with the mainland. Among other services, a supermarket and restaurant are located in Kirjais. Medical assistance and more comprehensive services can be found in Nagu, about 15 minutes by car from Kirjais and 20 minutes with a fast boat from Kalskär. There is a paved road all the way to the east point of Kirjais, only a couple of minutes from Kalskär by boat. To Turku it is approx. 55 km and there is a ferry connection between Nagu and Parainen (approx. 10 minutes travel time). In all, travel time to Turku is approximately one hour.
