Room rates includes all gourmet meals, a selection of fine Australian wines and beers, all soft beverages, a daily Orpheus Experience (nature based tour/activity), unlimited use of motorised dinghies, unlimited use of all non-motorised water sport equipment including stand up paddleboards, sea kayaks, hobie catamaran, snorkelling and fishing equipment and Australian Government goods & services tax (GST).

Location
Orpheus Island is a true Great Barrier Reef island, located 80 kilometres (50 miles) north of Townsville and 190 kilometres (120 miles) south of Cairns and is 24 kilometres (15 miles) offshore. Orpheus Island stretches for 11 kilometres (7 miles) and comprises of 1,368 hectares of pristine National Park.

Accommodation
All 14 air conditioned rooms on Orpheus are laid without fanfare along a ribbon of serene beach. With a unique ambience and a beautiful balance between contemporary and minimalist island aesthetic, all accommodation types ensure utter comfort in a laid-back luxe setting! Natural colour schemes, blonde timbers, crisp white linen, 32 inch LED TVs, iPod docking stations and LI'TYA guest amenities ensure a tranquil sanctuary for guests to unwind in.

Dining
Best suited to the island's tropical climate, Orpheus offers a light, contemporary and daily-changing menu that showcases the riches of the region. Celebrating a bounty of locally-sourced, wholesome and freshly grown and caught seasonal delights, each meal tells a tale and promises to stimulate both the mind and palate. All meals including gourmet picnic hampers on your own private beach are included in your room rate. Orpheus’s signature dining experience, Dining with the Tides is a six course degustation menu matched with wines from their cellar master list is exclusive for one couple per evening under a starlit sky on our private pier. Dining with the Tides is an additional cost of AUD 140 per person inclusive of wine.

Honouring a diverse selection of Australia's finest drops, the Orpheus cellar features both iconic and boutique wines from the country's most renowned wine regions. The collection has been carefully crafted to ensure a perfect harmony between cuisine, climate and environment.

Gwandalan Day Spa
In consultation with the indigenous elders of the region, Orpheus' Day Spa was named Gwandalan meaning 'rest and peace' in the Aboriginal language. Peace guides every element of the spa. With a unique collection of treatments that embrace the principals of modern and indigenous herbalism, aromatherapy and touch therapy, each ritual is inspired by traditional Aboriginal techniques and aims to restore balance and wellness. The Gwandalan Day Spa uses the exquisite LI'TYA spa product range. LI'TYA meaning 'of the earth,' is a unique collection of products formulated using sustainably wild-harvested, pure Australian botanicals and organic ingredients.

Activities

Complimentary: Motorised dinghies, catamarans, light fishing gear, stand-up paddle skis, local snorkel trips including equipment, self-guided and guided walks through national park.

Charges apply: Scuba diving, out reef fishing/tours, helicopter charters, private tours/charters, Hinchinbrook Island tour (boat or helicopter), dining with the tides, day spa treatments, sunset cruise, master cooking or mixology classes, visit to the island’s marine research station.

Best time to travel

Orpheus has a warm tropical climate with an average temperature of 29°C year-round. The water temperature varies between 21°C in the winter and 29°C in the summer. It should be known that during the wet season (November to April) there's heavy and frequent downpours in tropical North Queensland. Due to the wet season, Orpheus closes each year between late January and early March. During the cooler, drier months from May to October, the weather is pleasantly warm with reduced humidity and plenty of sunshine!


Getting there

Flight to Townsville or Cairns. Transfer from Townsville to Orpheus 30 minutes (AUD 580 return), transfer from Cairns to Orpheus 60 minutes (AUD 1,410 return).
