Spend a Night in a Historic Castle on a Private Island in Upstate New York...

The Thousand Islands region has to be one of the most beautiful places in North America. Dark Island, just one of those islands, is situated on the St. Lawrence River, close to the border of the USA and Canada. It is an island with more than 100 years of history. At the turn of the 20th century, Commodore Frederick G. Bourne, former director of the Singer Sewing Machine Co., commissioned the construction of a hunting lodge on the island. He appointed well-known architect Ernest Flagg, who took inspiration from the English castle described in Sir Walter Scott's Woodstock. Even the clock tower with chimes has been replicated. A certain mystery surrounds the castle on Dark Island - with its underground passageways and evocative paintings. Singer Castle is one of the very few historical castles in the United States. Trained tour guides lead visitors daily through the various halls, rooms with antique furniture, the old castle library, the squash court, and much more. In the evening, the island is yours alone. Savour the magnificent river views from the terrace. Dine in the great hall, relax in the library or set out on a discovery tour of the network of secret passageways. You will stay in the best room in the castle - with lavish decor and breathtaking views. You can rent the entire island exclusively for weddings, family celebrations or business conferences.
