Right out of a storybook, Big Gooseberry Island, has long been fondly known as one of the prettiest islands in Mahone Bay. The prime jewel of all the neighboring islands, its close proximity to the Village of Chester, adds to the attractiveness of island living. With its white clapboard and shingled homes with red roofs, a boathouse, along with several outbuildings, the island's treasured setting is truly magical and has been admired by many for generations.
The main home, The Captain's House, sits near the water's edge, just steps from the wharf. It enjoys pretty shoreline views of the Village of Chester, the sheltered Back Harbour and all the marine activity in between. A second home, a guest cottage, a bunkhouse, and a boathouse make this island a wonderful family estate, where happy memories and traditions can be rooted.
Stroll the island's walking trails and enjoy the mixed woods, an old "Acadian Forest", the open meadows, the sea breezes and the ocean views. The Village of Chester, a short boat ride away, offers a Playhouse, a yacht club, a seaside golf course, a rink complex and oodles of interesting shops and cafes, on Nova Scotia's Bluenose Coast, an hour from Halifax International Airport.
