An oasis of barefoot elegance |
|
The development of this perfect tropical escape was the vision of Emmy-award-winning Australian television producer Henry Crawford. The result is Vatulele (pronounced ‘Vah-too-lay-lay’), located on a spectacular island in the Fiji group. It took two years to find the ideal South Seas location and three more to enhance the natural beauty of the site with man-made luxury, where stressed-out guests could escape the pressures of Western society.
In keeping with the resort philosophy, there are no TVs, newspapers, telephones, money transactions nor shoes.
Rates:
Diverse packages available including full board, all beverages, many sporting activities:
• From USD 1,250 per day for 2 people.
• Honeymoon offers.
• "The Point" Villa from USD 2,400 per day for 2 people.
Location
Fiji contains more than 300 islands in the heart of the South Pacific.
Vatulele is south of the largest island, Viti Levu.
Accommodation
The villas or bures (pronounced 'boo-rays') are spacious and identical, enjoying easy access to the water, each with its own stretch of white sand.
Twelve doors open to an expansive terrace and from the living room you walk up three steps to the bedroom with a king-size bed and a dressing area.
The bures are around 50 metres apart and are set in natural jungle, allowing privacy.
“The Point” Villa is a premium bure with a commanding view of the lagoon and entire beach. It has two levels and is the only bure with air conditioning and a pool (fresh water). Well, there are actually two pools! Not to mention permanent staff assigned on a fulltime basis.
Dining
Vatulele is well-recognised for its food, ranging from Californian to Thai, Japanese, Australian/Asian and Indian – in fact, any style that suits our glorious tropical climate and laid-back lifestyle. Fresh ingredients are flown in daily from Australia and New Zealand. Naturally there is an emphasis on seafood. Because of our all-inclusive tariff, there are ample opportunities to sample the contents of our first-class cellar, including unlimited French champagne.
Activities
Watersports including windsurfing, snorkelling, diving, sailing, deep-sea fishing, kayaking. The quality of the scuba diving sites at Vatulele has been one of the South Pacific's well-kept secrets for many years, and only recently has it been revealed as one of the premier dive destinations in the region. Vatulele is the only five-star island resort in Fiji with a PADI ("Golden Palm" status) dive facility and resident instructors.
Best time to travel
Its mild tropical climate means that Fiji can be enjoyed all year round and it is a popular escape from the winters in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Perhaps the best time to go, however, is in the dry season or “Fiji winter”, from May to October. This time of year has cooler temperatures, less rainfall and humidity, and less risk of tropical cyclones.
Getting there
Six hours flight from Hawaii or four hours from Sydney, Australia, to Nadi (pronounced ‘Nandy’) International Airport. Then 25 minutes by light aircraft to Vatulele.
