Set in the Berry Islands, in the heart of the Bahamas, Little Whale Cay promises the pristine beauty of a private island allied with the charm of a six-bedroom family home, steeped in the local heritage, a short flight from Florida or Nassau.
The palm-fringed beaches and subtropical gardens provide the chance to enjoy the endless bounty of the Bahamian sun in complete, uninterrupted peace, while the surrounding waters offer some of the cleanest and most beautiful seas in the world and beckon you to swim. Little Whale Cay oozes romance and true romantics can renew their vows or begin their married lives in the island’s church set directly on the water’s edge.
Rates:
USD 9,500 per night for up to 12 guests for a minimum stay of 5 nights.
USD 10,750 per night for up to 12 guests for a minimum stay of 5 nights if the stay includes Christmas, Easter or Thanksgiving Holidays.
Rates include accommodation, food, drinks (including spirits and house wines), the use of all island facilities, boats, fuel, all telephone calls and WiFi internet connection in each guesthouse.
Tennis pro, bonefish guide, spa services, WaveRunners, scuba diving, etc., can be arranged at extra cost.
Staff gratuities are not included, nor is Bahamian room tax. A 15% additional charge is made to cover both of these.
There is a minimum stay of 7 days over holiday periods.
Location
130 nautical miles east of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and only 40 nautical miles north of Nassau.
Accommodation
For up to 12 guests. Little Whale House with open-plan living salon and two double rooms, the bar and dining area, terrace and sea view balcony. The pretty Flamingo House (four bedrooms, living area, kitchen, terrace) nestled in undulating lawns with coconut palms and banyan trees where peacocks sleep in the shade.
The romantic one-bedroom Peacock House on the hill only steps away from the pool and brilliant view over Chubb and Bird Cay. Collections of coral and shells decorate the bedrooms along with vases of freshly-picked bougainvillea and mimosa. Ceiling fans provide pleasant breezes and complement the tropical character of the island.
Dining
Give your culinary requests to the chef in advance of your visit. You choose when and where you wish to dine and enjoy cuisine equal to that of a fine hotel yet in an informal and unpretentious setting. The choice is yours.
Activities & daytrips
Explore the island and discover its sandy beaches, its flowering gardens, and the spit of land curling away to lighthouse point, where guests gather for sundowners. For more activity: sea-view infinity pool, gym, tennis court, snorkelling, water-skiing, sailing, windsurfing, fishing. Or just laze in a hammock with a book from the fully-stocked library or enjoy the peacock and flamingo-filled gardens. Trips to Nassau and Paradise Island with their casinos and duty-free shopping can be arranged.
Best time to travel
November to May is best when the cooling trade winds ensure pleasant temperatures and when the water is so warm you can linger in it for hours.
Getting there
The island with its private landing strip and private marina is easily accessible by boat/aeroplane/seaplane - only 15 minutes by private air charter from Nassau (approximately USD 250 one-way for 4 persons). For guests coming directly from Florida, the Bahama customs clearance is minutes away on the island of Chubb Cay.
