The Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, California, is situated along 31 oceanfront acres on Coronado Island. A national historic landmark, the Del is considered one of America's most beautiful resorts. Built in 1888 and recently restored at a cost of $55 million, the resort has a rich and colourful heritage. From US presidents to movie stars, from state dinners to the ghost of Kate Morgan, the Del is a fascinating American treasure. With year-round sunshine and classic Victorian architecture, the resort is a favourite for romantic getaways, family adventures, and as a meeting and conference destination. It became famous as the hotel in the movie Some Like It Hot, starring Marilyn Monroe and Jack Lemmon.

The resort offers a number of very different rooms, ranging from Victorian to contemporary. The 381 guestrooms in the Victorian building, have been restored with period décor which includes antique gold mirrors, ornate armoires and ceiling fans.
Restaurants
The resort's fine dining restaurant, the Prince of Wales, offers intimate indoor dining, as well as outdoor terraced dining with romantic candlelight, jazz piano nightly, and sunset views of the Pacific.
The resort's seaside restaurant, Sheerwater, features California coastal cuisine.
Activities
Hotel Del Coronado features a newly-renovated spa offering a number of pampering treatments, including Swedish, Shiatsu massages, aromatherapy and a beauty salon. A variety of beach activities, fitness centre, a bike trail, guided tour of historic Coronado, rentals and instruction for sailboats, speedboats, water skis, jet skis, paddleboats, kayaks and fishing on Glorietta Bay. Fabulous for golfing at one of the 80 golf courses in the San Diego area.
Best time to travel
San Diego has an all-but-perfect climate, so any time is a good time. For watersports, best between May and October, when average daily highs range from 70° to 85° F (22° to 30° C). Even in the coolest months (December and January), temperatures still hover close to 68° F (20° C).
Getting there
Fly to San Diego's Lindbergh Field airport, or fly in via Los Angeles with a connecting flight to San Diego (about 35 minutes). Only two hours’ drive down from LA.
