About Bora Bora
The beauty of Bora Bora is mainly its lagoon, the coral reef and the motus that surround it. Bora Bora is a jewel constantly changing its colours, showing you its various unpredictable shapes.
One of the nearby motus was the home of a famous French ethnologist, Paul Emile Victor. Another motu is the home of a well known sailor and globetrotter, Yoan de Kat. And still another was for several years an atelier of a famous painter, Garrick Yrondi.
At present it is very difficult or even impossible to buy or hire an island on Bora Bora. The main reason is a very complex law concerning the right to own land in French Polynesia. You can count the islands which have an easily identified owner with full rights, on the fingers of one hand only.
The motu is a privileged special place where according to the polynesian tradition nobody can come if not invited.
Bora Bora island and its marvellous lagoon are considered to be the most beautiful in the world. Bora Bora belongs to the Society Islands archipelago (French Polynesia). It is situated approximately 280 km to the north-west of Tahiti. Its diametre is about 35 kms. There are two mountains - Mont Pahia and Mont O Te Manu - that dominate the island. The lagoon is surrounded by a coral reef and a chain of little islands called in tahitian "motu". One of these motus, situated in the most beautiful part of the lagoon, is Mai Maona, for sale now.
Bora Bora has its own airport. Dozens of planes arrive here every week from Tahiti. In Vaitape - the main village of Bora Bora - you can find lots of boutiques, a few shops, banks, a post office, doctors, dentists, a drug store.
