A Pristine Paradise in the Outer Seychelles Islands

Escape to the exquisite simplicity of a tropical island paradise. Alphonse Island has long since been a firm-favourite with anglers and fly-fishers but is now gaining in popularity with families and couples keen to indulge in some of the Seychelles best beaches, nature programs and water-based activities. Off the beaten track but easily accessible, this tropical island paradise is going places.

Location

Alphonse Island is a wonderfully remote escape, located in the southern reaches of the Seychelles. Located 400 km south-west of Victoria, the country’s capital, it’s one of the most remote island escapes in the Indian Ocean. Don’t be fooled by its far-flung setting though – thanks to regular, direct scheduled flights from Mahé, paradise is closer than you think.

Rates

Prices start from USD 950 per person per night. Contact Vladi Island Travel for inclusions, offers and tailor-made travel packages.

Accommodation

Alphonse Island is home to a small resort made up of Beach Bungalows, Beach Suites and Beach Villas – all of which are just a few steps from the water’s edge. Nestled within nature and strategically positioned to afford guests with the utmost of privacy, all accommodation options are air-conditioned, decorated in a carefully crafted Creole style and offer incredible views of the Indian Ocean.

The 22 one-bedroom Beach Bungalows are located along the island’s eastern shoreline and form the perfect choice for couples. The 5 two-bedroom Beach Suites are a great family friendly option, whereas the 2 Beach Villas are made with celebration in mind. Offering space for up to 8 adults, these 900 m² four-bedroom beachside palaces offer the utmost in privacy, with secluded spaces for entertaining and even their own plunge pools.

Dining

Guilt-free indulgence very much the order of the day on Alphonse Island. The cuisine team prides itself on its fresh fusion of international and Creole flavours, with much of the produce sourced directly from the island’s farm and its surrounding seas.

Activities

Conservation is something that Alphonse Island holds dear and a visit to the Island Conservation Centre is an absolute must. The ICC team is committed to protecting the area’s flora and fauna and offer guests a unique opportunity to get involved with the island’s environmental work, whether that be birdwatching, beach clean ups, or turtle tracking (September – March for Hawksbills, January – September for Green Turtles).

Aside from the environmental activities, the island also offers tailor-made spa treatments, cycling tours, scuba diving and snorkelling, stand-up paddle tours, reef flat expeditions, dolphin viewing, fishing tours (fly fishers in particular will enjoy their time here) and our personal favourite: castaway tours to the uninhabited island of St. Francois. After all, who can say no to a spot of island hopping?

How to Get There

For travellers from Europe, Africa and especially the Middle East, it couldn’t be easier to access the Seychelles. Direct flights to the International Airport on Mahé are available from Frankfurt, Paris, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Durban to name but a few. From Mahé, a 60-minute scheduled flight connects you to Alphonse Island. Our Travel Team will help you find the best connections.

Best Time to Travel

It’s always summer in the Seychelles. Alphonse Island lies just seven degrees south of the equator, with sunshine all but guaranteed throughout the year. As such, the best time to travel depends entirely on your interests. Divers will appreciate the calmer, clear waters of March – May and September – November, whereas nature fans will prefer to plan their travel according to the nesting / hatching season of the country’s famous hawksbill turtles.
