Located towards the north western tip of Madagascar, Nosy Valiha is an intriguing island which could just as easily be used as a fabulous family home or a tourism / business development.
Used as an exclusive family paradise for the last twenty years, the substantial, 3-square-mile island supports an officially registered airstrip and mobile phone mast whilst still offering total seclusion and privacy amongst some of the world’s most spectacular coral seas.
The island is home to several beaches – including a spectacular 3-kilometer-long stretch of soft, white sand towards the north of the island which even has a channel to allow boats to reach the beach even at low tide – an important feature considering the significant tidal differences in this region of Madagascar. The private, 600-metre-air strip is located on an expanse of land behind this beach, offering potential to extend its length to up to a kilometre if necessary.
The highest point of the island – and indeed, the whole archipelago – can be found towards the centre of the island, forming a popular habitat for avian life and an ideal location for scenic hikes. The hilly area also forms home to a telephone mast, providing excellent phone and internet reception to the island the archipelago beyond.
The fauna and flora of the island have been carefully conserved over the past decades, and remain totally unspoilt and undeveloped. Amongst the scented coconut groves, the rare Madagascar Fish Eagle can be seen together with many other exotic bird species. From the white sand beaches, magnificent dive sites are located just off the island’s extensive coral reef.
