Picture a small private island with a white sandy beach, tall palm trees, beautiful flowers, magnificent sunsets and traditional bungalows. Surrounding this beautiful adults-only hideaway are some of the most colourful reefs and the best fish life this planet has to offer… The resort, which started in early 1996, is all there is on the island. There are only 4 bungalows with a total of 8 rooms, accommodating a maximum of 16 guests. Other than a handful of local staff, you won't see another soul. You can easily circumnavigate the entire island in about 15 minutes. A bottle of wine on the beach at sunset time is the perfect way of ending an exciting day of diving.

Rates
(depending on season and number of guests):
approx. EUR 130 per person/night/twin-share. Accommodation rates include all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Island buyout rates on request.

Location
After a 1:30 hour flight from Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, you reach Kavieng. Situated only 2 degree south of the equator, on the north-western end of the island of New Ireland, you find yourself in this small, laid-back town. Often referred to as a typical "Somerset Maugham" South Pacific island setting, you are now right between two crystal clear oceans: The South Pacific in the north and the Bismarck Sea in the south. Lissenung Island Resort is located a 20-minute boat ride away from Kavieng.

Accommodation
Four bungalows housing two rooms each are spread out over the island, providing maximum privacy. The bungalows are built in traditional style from local materials, with big, open windows and high ceilings, set above the ground, to allow for maximum airflow. The six Standard Rooms have private bathrooms, while the two Budget Rooms share a bathroom, which is located between the two rooms. Each room features a ceiling fan, fly-screens, mosquito nets, a large desk with natural light (important for photographers) and cupboard space. After diving, the large verandah invites you to relax in comfortable chairs.

Dining
Fresh seafood, such as fish, crabs and crayfish (lobster) feature high on a menu where set meals are served, rather than actually giving out a menu to choose from. Special dietary requirements can be catered for on request. Many of the ingredients used in our meals come from the local market in Kavieng or are bought from the vendors that either visit our island or come out to meet our dive boats at various dive sites. We buy fresh fruit such as pineapple and bananas as well as all our seafood from these people. Some vegetables and fruits are even grown on the island. Wherever the food comes from, you can't get it more organic than this! Beer and Wine are available at the resort, but feel free to bring along your own alcoholic beverages.

Activities
Diving, Snorkelling, Surfing, Fishing, Kitesurfing, Village Tours, Land Tours

Best Time to travel
Any time of the year. There are two distinct types of climate in PNG. The lowland and coastal regions are hot with temperatures ranging from 24-35 degrees C and high humidity. The highlands are cooler, averaging between 12-28 degrees C. Although there are dry and wet seasons, it is often difficult to distinguish between them, as it can rain for days in the dry season or stay dry for long spells in the wet season.

Getting there
Flights from Australia to Port Moresby depart 7 days a week. There are also two weekly flights from Singapore, Manila, Nadi/Fiji and Honiara/Solomon Islands, as well as flights once a week from Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Tokyo to Port Moresby.
