Little Thatch is a 54-acre, privately owned island just a few minutes by boat from Soper's Hole at the West End of Tortola. The island was made habitable by its English owners a few years ago, and is now one of the most idyllic venues in the Caribbean.
It has a golden beach fringed with coconut palms and the seagrapes from which the guest cottage has taken its name. The water is so clear you don’t even need a snorkel to view the amazing variety of fish, and the gentle sea breezes ensure that the heat never becomes oppressive.

Location:
The island is located less than 400 yards from the western end of Tortola and is less than half a mile away from Saint John, United States Virgin Islands.
Accommodation:
Seagrape Cottage is situated directly on the shore in one of the most perfect locations imaginable. It is accessed from the water's edge on to the dining deck or along a shell-strewn path into a small walled garden – complete privacy is assured. There are stunning views over the sparkling sea to Great Thatch, Yost Van Dyke and the most western tip of Tortola.
The cottage is built in typical West-Indian style: gingerbread trims on a large terracotta-tiled veranda which surrounds three sides of the cottage, and a private dining deck built out over the sea with steps leading directly to the shore.
On the inside an open plan interior with brightly colored shuttered doors leads onto the veranda. The cottage is decorated simply but very elegantly, with terracotta floors overlaid with rugs, bamboo and rattan furniture, a fully equipped kitchen area, a stunning draped four-poster bed, and a traditionally styled bathroom with a walk-in tiled shower.
Outside, on the capacious wraparound balcony there are tables and chairs, sun-loungers, and a king-sized hammock which enable guests to enjoy full sun and maximum tanning, or retreat to the shade and enjoy the refreshing sea breezes if they prefer. There is also a covered external cooking area with a full-sized professional barbecue grill and cook-top for al fresco meals.
The owners are occasionally in residence, but are extremely low-key and will respect the privacy of guests at Seagrape Cottage. Their residence is located on a hilltop at the other end of the island, out of sight of the beach and cottages. A second beach cottage, Plumbago, is sometimes used as a beach bar by the owners when they are in residence, but it has no overnight accommodation.
The cottage is equipped with air conditioning, high-speed internet, a hot tub, telephone, fax, radio, TV, VCR, DVD and CD players and a limited supply of films and CDs are available as well as books, postcards and Little Thatch stationery.
Visitors will certainly want to explore the amazingly warm, clear waters surrounding Little Thatch, and snorkeling equipment is available at no additional cost. Guests may also wish to shop and explore on Tortola, so boat transfers to Soper's Hole at West End are complimentary during the day. A limited number (4) of evening transfers are also included to allow you to visit the wide variety of dining experiences on Tortola from island beach shacks serving Roti to critically acclaimed restaurants, such as the Sugar Mill at Little Apple Bay.
Dining:
Well before your arrival, your grocery, beverage and liquor order will be taken and stocked into the Seagrape's well appointed kitchen on the day you arrive. In addition, restaurants and shops are only a 5 minute boat ride away.
Activities and Daytrips:
Jonathan and Katy Morley, the resident managers at Little Thatch, have many years of experience in the BVIs and are happy to advise on excursions, shopping, water sports, diving, etc. Car hire on the mainland can be arranged to explore the more inaccessible locations (it is unnecessary on Little Thatch). The more adventurous power or sailboat hire can also be arranged. A dock facility is available at Little Thatch area at no extra cost.
Best time to travel:
All year round. Daily temperatures vary between 29 and 32 °C. A constant fresh sea breeze allows for a pleasant climate. During the hurricane season (end of July to mid-October) the weather might change suddenly.
Getting there:
Direct Flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico, from US Mainland, Europe & South America. Connect from San Juan to Tortola with daily flights on American Airlines to Beef Island, BVI, or via private charter. Direct flights to St. Thomas from US Mainland. Connect to West End, Tortola, using local ferry services (note: the last ferry leaves St. Thomas at 4:45 pm). You can also hire a private boat to take you directly to the island or charter a helicopter. Direct flights to Antigua or St. Martin from Europe. Connect to Beef Island via American Airlines through San Juan or fly direct with LIAT or charter with FLY BVI.
On arrival at Tortola you will be met by a Little Thatch representative who will collect you from either the airport (45 min drive) or the West End Ferry Terminal (5 min drive) to the Island's private launch. After a five minute ride you will reach Little Thatch.
