Location
The Cottars 1920s Safari Camp is situated in an extensive and exclusive concession between the Masai Mara, Serengeti and Loliondo reserves where a few Purko Masai clans roam. This area has been untouched by any kind of tourism or development and offers the discerning client a guarantee of privacy.

Accommodation
The camp accommodates up to 16 clients in authentic white-canvas tents, which are spacious and luxuriously furnished and incorporate original safari antiques from the 1920s; private en suite dressing rooms and bathrooms (with old-fashioned style tubs, showers and flushing toilets), the main bedroom and an outdoor veranda. A tented reading room with an extensive array of African and modern books and magazines, or our natural-rock swimming pool with surrounding hammocks, will allow those who wish to merely while away an afternoon resting and viewing the splendid panorama. The cuisine and service is of the highest standard to be found in the bush. Massage and aromatherapy facilities are available at the camp.

Safaris
Drawing on 80 years of safari experience, the Cottar family provides guests with the highest standard of personalised and professional guiding. Each group (even if there is just one person) has their own dedicated professional safari guide and vehicle. As the camp is situated in one of the prime wildlife locations in Africa the game and diversity of the landscape is excellent.

Tailor-made itineraries ensure the safari provides a unique experience for the guests. Recalling an era of luxury and quality, Cottars 1920s Safari Camp in the Masai Mara returns to the original spirit and essence of safari, reminiscent of a golden era – an era of romance, professional guiding, adventure and elegance, in a timelessly unspoiled setting with panoramic views and boundless game. The game drives are made with either state-of-the-art four-wheel-drive cars, in our authentic, old wooden car, or in our oxen-pulled wagon. Guided walking and night drives are also highly recommended.

Best time to travel
In general, the climate of Kenya, especially in the highlands, is one of the most pleasing in the world. There are two rainy periods: the long rainy season from April to May and a short rainy season from the middle of October to November. But even during the rainy periods travelling to Kenya can be very attractive as the countryside greens and blossoms and the colours of the landscape are more intense than at any other time of the year. In August and September you can watch the annual animal migration.

Getting there
Travel By Air: Twice-daily flights with Air Kenya from Wilson Airport, Nairobi, to Keekorok airstrip; private charters can land at Cottars' own airstrip. By Road: 5 hours by road from Nairobi.
