General Information
Located in the Waitemata Harbour Pakatoa is approximately 32 kilometres from Auckland City. It is one of the very few islands privately owned in the Hauraki Gulf as most islands are held by the Crown as reserve and park land. The island was developed as a resort destination in the 1950s and now offers the opportunity to redevelop its tourism potential or provide an exclusive piece of commercial usable water-related land in New Zealand.

Property Description
The island provides in excess of 24 hectares of undulating land rising from the sea level to a high point of approximately 56 metres. Pakatoa Island is endowed with two attractive beaches on the east coast and one to the north adjacent to the existing wharf facilities. At least one of these beaches is sheltered at all times due to the position of the island, which has a generally northerly aspect. The predominance of buildings currently on site are located to the lower northern part of the island with the chalets constructed on the high ground and open grassland occupying the southern half of the island. The island is extensively landscaped with large stands of native and pine trees, various types of palms and large open areas of grassland. Marine access to the island is serviced by a substantial modern wharf jetty and the island is serviced by a sealed road system.
The Buildings
The public areas include a restaurant and coffee bar, takeaway foods, tourist licence bar and lounge bars together with kitchen facilities, entertainment and conference centre, reception, offices and shop. A swimming pool is also located within this area.
Staff amenities and facilities areas are supplied together with maintenance buildings and general storage.
General construction of all structures on the island comprise the typical New Zealand light timber style.
Framing of the structures in simple with proprietary weatherboard exterior cladding predominantly aluminium joinery and tiled roofing while interiors are flush lined with natural finish timber surfaces and timber flooring.
All facilities are provided on the island. Power reticulation is provided by two diesel generators.
Fresh water is provided from four underground bores supplemented by rain water collected from roof tops and stored in a number of large capacity tanks. A sewage treatment plant and drainage system has been constructed to specification for the existing size and use. A television translator is installed and telephone system provided.
The existing buildings and resort were opened to the public early in 1965 having been constructed over the latter part of 1964.
The island had been run in recent years as a self contained visitors facility with facilities and buildings designed to cater for both day or overnight visitors.
Recreational facilities include previously mentioned beaches and pool, 2 mini tennis courts, a bowling green, squash court, gymnasium and solarium.
The resort facility has been closed in recent years.
The property is presently supervised by a resident caretaker.
