Virginia Cay is a petite private island located in Stann Creek, Belize’s popular diving district. Powered exclusively by solar energy (and with a back-up generator already in place), the island offers all the essentials you need to enjoy a little bit of life in the sun.
Located just seven miles from the mainland at Hopkins and with two large marinas within the immediate vicinity (Sittee River and Dangriga), the island couldn’t be easier to access. The part-filled mangrove island forms home to a mainhouse, a cosy cabin and a palapa meaning it can easily accommodate a small family.
The cosy cabin comprises of an extremely comfortable queen-sized bed and a kitchen area with a gas stove and slow cooker. The toilet and shower are located in a separate hut just a few steps away from the cabin, and – in keeping with the island’s sound eco-credentials -are serviced entirely by rainwater collected on the island.
Despite its small size, the island offers plenty of picturesque places to relax and take in the scenery. A sandy beach can be found to the west of the island and sheltered cove can be found along the northern coast of the island – perfect for wading through the water and watching the wildlife. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a passing dolphin or manatee.
