Spectacular Private Island with Tourism Potential on the Helgeland Coast
Sakrisoya was the private island of the Bastesen family from the beginning and has a long history. It inspired Steinar Bastesen who spent part of his childhood there. It is located in the middle of the Skibbatsvaer archipelago, a 20-minute boat ride from Heroy.
Sakrisoya, the historic jewel of Skibbatsvaer, comes for sale with 9 adjacent islands and skerries. There is a building ban on other islands to guarantee views. On the island itself, several houses can be built as in the old days. It is the only privately built island in the archipelago.
This maritime area is unique. It is located in the middle of the world's richest fishing grounds and borders the Vega Islands – UNESCO World Heritage Site – known as an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA). On the Vega islands you will find the famous Eider duck and no less than 228 bird species. This maritime area of 107,294 ha, of which 6,881 ha is land, is considered the most important wintering area for seabirds in the Nordic region.
House Description
The first building was built on the existing housing site in 1901. The construction site was carefully chosen according to the contours of the island and offers optimal protection against the sometimes strong wind. The house is strongly built in precisely fitting dimensions and has proven to have survived the ravages of time.
Sakrisoya received a thorough makeover and was recently fully equipped to be able to go off-grid for a long time with solar panels, batteries (Victron energy) and wind generator. The house has 5 bedrooms, bathroom, saloon, dinner room and kitchen. The endless summer sunset shines perfectly into the salon all night long.
It’s allowed to construct additional buildings on the island since there where more houses in the past. This is documented.
Sakrisoya consists of several islands, offers unparalleled views of Lovund, Donna, the seven sisters and hundreds of small islands. The reefs and "fishing" need to be redefined. Hundreds of birds and sea eagles continuously visit the island. From winter until mid-April northern lights are easily visible.
The biggest asset is without a doubt the extremely helpful commune of Skibbatsvaer, super equipped and cohesive.
Historic Sakrisoya has plenty of tourism potential. The house is ready to use, everything is available.
