Valdivia is located 850 km south of Santiago de Chile. The population of Valdivia is approximately 110,000. There are daily flights from Santiago to Valdivia. Moreover, it is an official port of entry and the Rio Valdivia is the only navigable river in Chile for ocean-going vessels. An accredited University and German and English Schools are among the cities facilities.
Isla Mongon is situated 2.5 miles south and downriver of the Valdivia city centre and the Pacific Ocean is only another 5 miles away. The shores of the island have good tidal flow due to the nexus of the Rio Guacamayo and Rio Valdivia. Fishing is good and mosquitos are not a problem.
Vegetation on the island consists mainly of 100 year old chestnut trees. There are also old peach, plum, cherry and apple trees.
