Location
Picnic Island is located Australia, in the south-eastern state of Tasmania. Situated just 800 metres from the Tasmanian mainland at Cole’s Bay, the island forms a gateway to the popular Freycinet National Park and the region’s iconic mountain range: The Hazards.

Rates
Exclusive use of this unique island adventure retreat (up to 10 guests) is available from AU$ 1,200 per night. Please note: a minimum stay of three nights applies.

Accommodation
The once undeveloped, hectare-large island has undergone a dramatic transformation in recent years which has seen the creation of an eye-catching eco-lodge and additional tourist facilities.

Designed and constructed very much with respect to the natural environment, the copper-clad eco-lodge offers space for up to 10 guests, spread over three king-sized double bedrooms and an expansive suite with space for up to four adults. Bed linen is provided and included within the rental price. Due to the ecological sensitivity of the island, pets are not allowed under any circumstances.

Dining
Further to the eco-lodge, the self-catering island retreat is also home to communal facilities in the form of The Birdhouse. Home to a shared lounge, a bathroom and a kitchen area, the Birdhouse forms a modern living and dining space perfect for socializing, cooking up a storm or simply soaking up the sights of the island’s iconic beach and the nearby mountain range.

Activities
With its close proximity to Freycinet National Park and its impressive array of wildlife and sites of geological interest, Picnic Island is the perfect retreat for wildlife fans.

As well as the host of sea creature which live amongst the island’s sandstone rock formations, Picnic Island also forms a popular breeding ground for a number of bird species, including the Little Penguin and the Short-Tailed Shearwater. The incredible island is dotted with penguin burrows, and - in a night-time nature spectacle which must be seen to be believed - comes alive with the sounds of their scurrying feet as they make their way back home.

How to Get There
International travelers are advised to fly into Hobart, before driving upto Cole’s Bay (located approx. 2.5 hours’ drive away from Hobart International Airport). From Cole’s Bay it’s just an 800 meter boat journey across the water to Picnic Island. A water taxi can be organized for up to 10 travelers for AU$ 125 per trip (prices subject to change).

Best Time to Travel
Tasmania has four distinct seasons - the warmest months are December, January, February and March. Autumn also has sunny days and is a popular time to travel for those looking to explore the country’s hiking and nature trails. Winter runs from May through August. However, because Tasmania sits beside the Southern Ocean, the world's weather engine, its climate can vary greatly - on any given day.

The average maximum daily summer temperatures sit between 17 and 23 degrees Celsius and winter daily temperatures between 3 and 11 degrees Celsius.
