This property encompasses 26± private acres on the southeastern portion of Eagle Island in Penobscot Bay. Much of the property is open meadow, with stands of mature spruce, old stone walls and historic granite foundations dotting the land. There are approximately 1500 feet of shorefront, including a large protected cove with a sweeping pebble beach.
The property includes a charming post and beam house with two bedrooms, a woodstove, a solar-powered 12 volt electrical system, and a deck with outstanding views over meadows to the islands and bay. A guest house includes a woodstove and a loft, and it too offers excellent views.
Eagle Island is located just west of Deer Isle and has been continuously inhabited since 1810 by farmers, boatbuilders and fishermen. The lighthouse on the island's northern point was built in 1839 and was maintained by resident keepers until it was automated in 1959. There is a mail boat (with daily runs in the summer) from Sylvester Cove to Eagle Island. The villages of Deer Isle, Castine, or the midcoast towns of Camden, Rockport, and Rockland all also offer suitable mainland access.
