Dining
Majorsgrund is primarily a self-catering retreat. The island’s cosy kitchen comes with a four-ring gas cooker, an oven and fridge-freezer and a huge gas barbecue can be found on the veranda – ideal for enjoying an outdoor Mittsommar feast.
Catering can be organized on request, as can a shopping delivery service (bookable for stays of seven nights or more).
Activities
Set your watch to “island time” and reconnect to the important things in life: friends, family and the great outdoors. The region around Majorsgrund is one of Finland’s sunniest destinations, offering over 2,100 hours of sunshine per year. And how better to celebrate that than to explore everything this fascinating place has to offer. Majorsgrund comes with a full complement of water sports equipment, including SUPs, kayaks, and fishing gear, aswell as a 4 HP boat to explore the surrounding area.
The fun continues on the island itself. From finding your inner balance on the yoga matts or testing your outer balance on the island’s slackline, from archery to artistry, swimming to snoozing in front of the campfire - this incredible island offers something for everyone - and that’s before we get to the all-important business of Scandinavian sauna culture.
No Finnish island would be complete without a sauna house, and no Finnish sauna would be complete without jumping into a cool lake or sea. And take our word for it - it doesn’t get any cooler than jumping in from your own personal private island Robinson retreat.
How to Get There
Guests should fly into Vaasa International Airport - easily accessible from most European transport hubs. From Vaasa, it’s just a 20-minute drive to Öjna, where a boat will be waiting to bring you to your island escape.
Best Time to Travel
Majorsgrund is available to rent from mid-May to mid-October, Finland’s peak season, where an average of 10-20 hours of sunshine is all but guaranteed. Enjoy the changing colours of spring and autumn or make the most of the long, summer days, where water temperatures can creep as high as 26°C!
The 15th and 25th June - Finnish Mittsommer - forms an extra-special time to travel. As well as the many festivities taking place in the region, it’s also the best time to find out just why Finland enjoys the nickname “Land of the Midnight Sun.”
