About the island
Sanda is a privately owned island of about 400 acres, situated 1½ miles off the southern tip of the Mull of Kintyre, made famous by Paul McCartney, who wrote a song by the same name as a tribute to the picturesque peninsula, where he had owned a home and recording studio since the late 1960s. A frequent rendezvous for warriors, saints and smugglers, the island has a rich and diverse history and has connections with the monks of Whithorn, Robert the Bruce and the powerful MacDonald Clan. Historically referred to as 'haaven’ – or harbor – the island boasts a safe anchorage during the summer months.

In recent years, this beautiful and picturesque Scottish island has enjoyed the diversification of a farm and holiday lettings, as well as the establishment of Scotland’s 4th official bird observatory. Sanda has a great varietyof birdlife, with many migratory species being seen on the island. Maritime cliffs extend around much of the island. The cliff top areas are mainly either coastal grassland or heath. The waters around the island make for excellent sea fishing.

While you relax, you can watch seals basking on the shore or enjoy the abundance of wildlife and birds on the island.

The whole island can be rented by one family/group exclusively at one time. Sanda is also the perfect venue for weddings and honeymoons – for a truly magical and memorable stay. Staff are at hand to assist you and make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Excellent cuisine is included.

The islanders call their style of cooking "fresh products cuisine" concentrating on herbs and spices and with daring flavours. The cuisine focuses on skilful, inventive and tasty compositions of everyday staples rather than on luxury products. Any primary product - be it lobster, "weeds" wild herbs, potatoes, salt or oil - deserves to be used and treated with the utmost care.
Classics and local cuisine, combined in new interpretations in a vein akin to the slow food concept.
