A unique Scottish adventure holiday which won’t break the bank

Who could resist the charm of lighthouse living? Vladi Private Islands is proud to present a brand new, whimsical escape: Stoer Lighthouse. Located just off the north-western coast of Scotland, this unique retreat promises plenty of adventure – all without breaking the bank. The lighthouse is maintained by Scotland’s Northern Lighthouse Board and is still in operation today, promising a fantastic spectacle for the property’s guests.

Location
The imposing silhouette of the Stoer Lighthouse rises up from Scotland’s rugged north-western coast, standing on a rocky promontory surrounded by dramatic cliff-faces on the western-most point of the Stoer Peninsula. The remote lighthouse home is located just to the north (approx. 12 miles) of the sleepy fishing village of Lochinver, a popular angling destination and a must-see area for guests.

Rates
Prices start from GBP 600- per two twin-bedroom apartment for a six-night stay or GBP 450- for a three-night stay. Please contact a member of the Vladi Island Travel team for more details.

Accommodation
The Stoer Lighthouse comprises two well-appointed apartments and a small annex. Both the Ground Floor Flat  and the First Floor Flat boast two twin-bedrooms, a generous fully-equipped kitchen, a bathroom and a comfortable living room, home to two sofas, a television and DVD player, a cosy, electric fireplace and a well-stocked library – the perfect recipe for rainy days. The island’s small cottage, The Bothy, is a separate small house comprising two single beds and a WC. Perfect as a children’s play area or an annex, The Bothy, is available at an additional cost. Simply contact a member of the Vladi Island Travel Team for more details.

Dining
The Stoer Lighthouse is a strictly self-catering experience. The well-appointed kitchens have a washer / dryer, a modern cooker, a microwave oven, and a vast array of kitchen utensils. In short, everything you need to cook up a storm. Just be sure to stock up on all your favourite food before you set sail.

Activities
There’s so much to see and do around the Stoer Lighthouse. As mentioned above, the lighthouse comes equipped with its own library and television set. We’re sure you’ll agree, however, that watching nature’s spectacle unfold from the lighthouse’s window is much more entertaining than the goggle-box. An array of avian wildlife can be spotted from the island, including gannets, shags, cormorants and small auk – all of which can be spotted diving like small darts into the sea to fish for food. Further afield, guests are encouraged to explore the surrounding areas. The North West Highlands Geopark is just around the corner and promises a fascinating insight into Scotland’s extraordinary geological past. Alternatively, the Highland and Rare Breeds Farm, the Knockand Crag National Nature Reserve and the Bone Caves all offer plenty of fun for all the family.

How to Get There
Due to the lighthouse’s remote location, guests are advised to drive to their final destination. A rudimentary car park is located in a neck of land just below the final short climb to the lighthouse. International guests should note that the closest airports to the property are Inverness, Dornoch and Stornoway, located just over the water in the Hebrides. From Stornoway, there are four daily ferry crossings to Ullapool – a popular port town, just 90 minutes’ drive from the Stoer Lighthouse.

Best Time to Travel
Sadly, Scotland is not famed for its sunshine – whenever you choose to travel, you should be prepared for your fair share of rain. As long as you’re prepared for all conditions, there will be nothing to stop you enjoying the country’s impeccable landscape. For the best of weather, however, we recommend the balmy spring and summer months.
