Kunfunadhoo at 1,400 metres long and almost 400 metres wide is one of the largest islands in the Maldives. Apart from the crystal-clear waters, for which the Maldives are world-famous, the island's unusually rich vegetation provides a unique nature experience. Villas and rooms are scattered along the beach and tucked into the lush greenery, providing the ultimate in privacy.
The sheer size of the island allows an enjoyable exploration by bicycle or an energetic run on one of Soneva Fushi's hidden jogging trails. The absence of major hotel development in the Baa Atoll leaves one spoilt for choice of desert islands on which to picnic. Most of the dive sites you will explore are new discoveries made by Soneva Fushi Resort.

Location
Soneva Fushi Resort is set on the privately-owned, tropical paradise island of Kunfunadhoo. Soneva Fushi is situated in the Baa Atoll, north of the Malé Atoll. The flight by seaplane from the airport to the Baa Atoll takes about 30 minutes.

Accommodation
Each villa has the luxuries found in the best hotels. However, whilst offering all these modern facilities, Soneva Fushi has taken every opportunity to preserve the illusion of a Robinson Crusoe experience. Thus the hairdryer is likely to be found hidden in a drawer made of coconut wood, or the hifi might be concealed behind simple rattan.
The Villas are placed so that your very own stretch of white-sand beach is just a few steps away. There is dense vegetation in between each villa creating patios and gardens for secluded enjoyment. A favourite pastime is to sit back looking out to sea contemplating the beauty of nature. Each bathroom opens onto a private garden. In the Crusoe Villas, an open staircase leads to the upstairs bedroom.

The Soneva Fushi Jungle Reserve (1,710 square meters; view slide show for pictures) offers the ultimate in privacy. It comprises a Beachfront Villa complete with a master bedroom and large living room, massage pavilion and steam room, personal gym, private pool with waterslide and Tree House.

Dining
Dining options at Soneva Fushi are designed to make your stay on Kunfunadhoo diverse, exciting and slightly adventurous. Our Chef and his multi-national kitchen brigade work to produce a combination of dishes that allow the east to meet the west in culinary terms. Every effort is made to find ingredients of the highest quality, have them delivered to the island and served as fresh as they would have been if served at their place of origin. With this philosophy in mind, our menus take full advantage of the abundance of fresh fish in the Maldives.

Activities
Bicycle riding, table tennis, snorkelling, boules, windsurfing, jogging, badminton, fitness centre, water activities.

Best time to travel
If you're looking for a few extra hours of sunshine, you should visit the Maldives between December and April, which is the dry season.
It's still warm between May and November, but the skies can be cloudy, humidity is higher and rain is more likely. The transition months of November and April are said to be associated with increased water clarity and better visibility for divers.

Getting there
There are regular flights as well as many charter flights from European centres, all landing at Malé International Airport in the capital of the Republic of Maldives. Soneva Fushi is then accessible by a scenic, 30-minute seaplane flight.
